Hey guys

I have a 07 bf mk2 xr6 turbo. Its a zf gear box with 89 thousand kays.

When im driving at 80 kays+ my steering wheels shakes a bit.

Can any one tell me what causes this and how I can fix it.

Im also running nitto invos on all 4 corners and had the same problem when I had achilles on the car.

Thanks

I vote for your wheels.

Try wheel balance, then borrow some wheels off someone and see how that goes.

I've had Achilles and some other Chinese rubbish on 20s and none would balance out the vibes.

the achilles were better than the new ones though

I'm not entirely sure the rims aren't part of the problem either.

I have Falkens on my new ute, no wobbles.

Could be a number of things

Rotors.

Brake pads.

Brake booster.

Control arm bushes.

Alignment.

The rotors are about 10000 kays old. DBA 4000 T3's with EBC reds both put on brand new at the same time.

I had my control arm bushes checked out and WA suspension claim there fine O.o

Alignment was done about 1000 kays ago but I will get it checked.

As for the brake booster I thought that was only a issues for shudder when braking?

Im getting the shuddering while just normal driving. Its nothing to bad Just annoying and im worrying my tyres will get eaten alot faster because of it.

Cheers mate.

Im going to get the alignment and balancing checked. I know 1 wheel on the rear as a very slight buckle in it but was told it shouldn't be a issue? that's why it was put on the rear. Rear passenger side.

Couldn't leave to much then...... Is it consistent every time you drive at that speed? If so I say wheels as well :) if it's a hit and miss vibration I would guess brake booster, seems your on the right track best of luck.

Achilles and Nitto's are directional tyres Yeah ? I think. Asymetric ?

What Profile and tyre pressure are you running?

It really can be so many things so you just have to go through the proccess. Start with what you can do for nothing. Tyre pressure, get a free suspenion check then balance and check if the wheel or tyre is true. Control arm bushes all the way back to the brake booster.

Been my experience that when a brake drags it chirps when you drive against a barrier, then they get really squeaky as you brake as the pads get glazed from being dragged lightly.

The OEM Ford bushes are for comfort only and don't stand up to a good set of tyres and suspension. Or any sort of abuse.

When I went cheaper tyres I had to over inflate them or it would vibrate of a morning for the first ten K's or more. Went up to 42psi F and 40R. Stopped it.

Stock wheels? Aftermarket?

Hubcentric rings in it if the bore size isn't the right size?

Stock 18" wheels.

Whats the hubcentric rings? Sorry for the nub question

Im running 245/40 r18.

Tyre pressure is 35 in the rear and 40 in the front.

Ive noticed my brakes have become a bit glazed on the front ( have taken it to the quarter a few times )

WA suspension tried telling me my front bushes were fine but I dont see how that's possible at 89 thousand kays and there still factory bushes.

IM going to be replacing them all soon any way.

I do get brake shudder but only when the brakes are warm. I guess that's the brake booster though? First thing in the morning my brakes are fine under heavy braking. ( was just testing it, dont normally brakes heavy in the morning )

Ill try taking my tyre pressures up though, I thought nitto invos weren't exactly a cheap tyre though =/ So far I love them traction wise and cornering wise.

Over tightening wheel nuts can cause irreversible brake shudder.

If it were my car id check wheel balance, tyre pressures, rotor runout and wheel alignment.

A checklist for all of those should pinpoint what is going wrong.

I'd run a higher pressure in the rear if I were you.

Best of luck mate.
