Tailshaft could have well and truly been on its way out buuuuuuuut its a pretty nice coincidence for it to fail in their hands.

Don't you wish you had gps tracking in your car for cases like this?

There is no way the tailshaft can blow on startup! They either test drove it and broke it or he stalled it up heavily. Same case as them crashing it, they pay. You don't just do a tailshaft driving around a workshop.

$1400 later and I have my car back.

I had no other choice as I needed it TODAY and could not afford arguing the point as I had no evidence and they were doing it all today with a slightly discounted price as a result of some stern words from someone who is better at being demanding than me, I'm too nice haha.

Will definitely not be taking it back to that dealer at all. The service was reasonably good, but the work was terrible and I think we all know that it was probably broken in a way other than how they told me.

All in all, I finally get to go on my QLD trip that I have been planning and postponing due to car for so long, and origin is tonight!

Relieved, and very thankful for all your help and advice!

Cheers, Tom

Asked. Already binned. Obviously on purpose but was fed up at that point and left never to look back.

I hate hearing stories like this 9000ks and they didn't look after you I work on Allison automatics and I am very sceptical of there repair sounds half assed can you give us a update how the car is going, also tail shafts don't just sh*t themselves they cannot just bin warranty parts I always show the customer the parts I change on warranty.

Just completed 1100km trip to qld, car seems to be running fine but I'm pretty paranoid now.

The tailshaft wasn't a warranty part, I had to pay for it.

Do a search on this and other Ford forums.

I believe this has happened before and the failure was due to the tailshaft rusting from the inside out.

Unfortunately you have paid already and in reality getting cash back off a dealer........................

Nice of them to quickly bin the tailshaft too. They are not known just to fail and the std one can take a fair bit of abuse before it goes. Well and truly after a few sets of bushes and diff hats go first.

I Call BullSh1t.... It's just Ford Aus making sure another customer doesn't come back to the Marque.
