Hey guys

My car recently has a slight mis underload at first I thought it was traction control but discovered it wasnt, I immediatly think its a stuffed coil pack but I wanted to know if there is a way to test them with a multimeter like we used to on ignition leads?

I am going to pull them out this weekend to inspect them, had them in for about 2 and a half years (about 30,000ks).

Anyone know if its possible to test the resistance of these coils?

Cheers.

Yes but generally they will still test fine, looking at the coil body for cracks is an instant sign of a stuffed coil, also inspect the coil sleeve for splits/tears and arc points

Also if they are aftermarket PUT GENUINE ONES IN!!!!!

They can be tested on a ignition/coil tester. At first they will seem fine but we just opened up the gap on the tester plug to get the coil hot and work harder and when we did that, that's when it started to play up.

You can also get genuine VDO set for like $150 from eBay. I would assume that they are better than the ford brand.

Alternatively COBRA also make them which allegedly put out 10 -15% more spark than factory (also around $150).

Genuine coils aren't VDO they are Visteon. The success rate with aftermarket coils has (weapon-x etc) has been very low hence most people pay a little extra for genuine coils.
