No Boost

Hi Guys,

Im having afew problems with my car atm its a BA turbo 03 the problem is its currently making no boost,

About 2 weeks ago it was dyno'd after fitting another engine with valve springs as previous engine started knocking badly, and found to be running lean and 14psi (previous owner had it tuned ?), my tuner couldnt get the boost lower so pulled timing out and maxxed the injectors so I could limp it home.

I havent been driving it until I saved up the money todo the exhaust and injectors and re-tune it properly anyway today I got a new 5" venom cat installed and the middle muffler removed and straight pipes fitted, then took it to the tuners to get the 60 pound injectors fitted and retuned.

Anyway later in the day I get a call saying that its making no boost and would need ti be their another day to sort it out.

Is their any common reason that these turbos make no boost as it had previously held 14psi with no issues other then the lack of fuel, I have read all the other threads I could on the topic and common things seemed to be boost leak - intercooler hoses coming off , split hose on the throttle body , possible diagpahram failue in the actuator, possible sticking of the wastegate, actuator not sitting on correctly rod alignment etc.

I would love anyones other ideas or experiences they have had that might help me, the tuner I am using is mostly Expensive Daewoo based but has done alot of turbo supercharged v8's so I trust him todo the tune correctly but has only really done my turbo and a couple of others.

So im hoping someone might have some usefull info to speed up the process that I can susgest as I also live 2 hours away for work haha not having good luck with this car atm.

All help appreciated Thanks Rory

Sounds like you have actuator issues but check all vac lines and cooler pipes joins do u have a boost gauge?

I'd suggest going to a tuner who you have confidence with that has dealt with T's and knows what they're doing. Not saying this one atm doesn't but I'd prefer going to a tuner who has done 23 turbos as opposed to 3 turbos.

Who you with atm?

While I agree with you Shy about the experience thing was planning on a headsex tune I didnt have much choice having to goto work the next day 2 hours away and my afrs where running at 14.7 I had no choice but to get it quickly tuned to get it back home as I recently moved to melbourne from ballarat so the tune credits where used I have no problem with his ability to tune just the fault finding quicker on my T is what I hope to speed up.

Thanks quadie but I checked my diff bush's first because some how this might affect boost levels................

Headsex will find the fault mate, yes he mightnt have the big workshop or heaps n heaps of customers but fark the bloke has knowledge

Fair enough about trying to find more faults that may cause the issue on here, could be a simple fix that slips past the mind. Good luck mate and let us know what the drama was..nothing worse than someone bringing up a problem they're having and never follow up with what happened! Lol..just incase someone else comes on here with the same problem and searches and comes across this thread :spoton:

Hi mate no boost gauge was what my tuner said when he rang said it was making no boost and was going to try a few things tomorrow to diagnose I said I would have a look around the forum and see if their was any known common faults to help with speed of the diagnose had a search and above is what stuck out but just seeing if their was anything recent that might me more common but yeah nothing really helpful.

Im just trying to save time and get my car back on the road and tuned properly so I can drive it again not sitting at the mechanics all weekend

Did the new engine come with the turbo. I ask this as if it was stuck on 14psi it sounds like it has an uprated wastegate actuator installed, hence not being able to get any lower than that. I would have hoped your tuner could have figured something like that out. The engine that has gone into your car cant take the tune with it unless it came with the ECU as well from my understanding.

As for no boost could be all kinds of things as stated earlier in this thread. Hope you figure this out.

The T's are totally different to tune compared to holdens, tuning them has to take into account factory boost control, electronic throttle, toquemanagement, variable cams etc etc and then factor in what ever hardware changes you have made away from the factory car, you will have to put up with your tuners diagnostic skills and see what he comes up with.

Hey wenier no just the long block was replaced and some valve springs put it in same turbo and everything else

This is the first time it has been on the dyno as it has been running well until the old engine started knocking

I'm more leaning towards a actutor problem or wastegate stuck open or something I dk , ill just wait and see I guess as ratter has said I'm sure it will get diagnosed just wanted to speed the process up if possible
