Xr8 Valve Springs

Hi guys,

I have been informed that I'm able to use XR8 valve springs in the XR6 Turbo engine, my question is would it be the Barra V8 or the Boss V8? I'm pretty sure my valve springs are shot, my car is standard apart from a front mount intercooler. When it gets to 2nd and 3rd gear in the higher RPM range it seems to want to stall and shudder. I've replaced my coils, I've cleaned my boost solenoid, tightened the exhaust manifold, but the problem is still there. The funny thing is it only started doing it when I changed the fuel filter, but I don't think that's the problem. First gear there's no problems with the car, it revs right out with no shudder or problems. I have also fitted stock rims on the back of it, I know it might sound stupid but do you think that could be doing anything to the traction control? I run the vehicle without traction control. The only thing I can think of is valve springs, I give the car a hard time but it hasn't been boosted or tuned, it's got 170,000kms.

Also if I have to go to the trouble of replacing the valve springs, I was thinking of replacing the whole head with an FG head because I would prefer the better intake manifold and obviously the better head and valve springs, but will an FG head fit on a BA bottom end?

Probably be better to just go an FG long motor if you really want the FG heads. The BA motor's weakness is their bottom end, top end isn't that bad apart from valve springs. Valve springs you should look at Atomic, Crow, Nizpro etc. They are strongerr than the Ford ones and probably won't cost you a great deal more.

I've got xr8 springs ready to go into my falcon.

Not sure if they will fit (Apperantly they do) and the falcon handbook says they are more than 1/3 stronger than the standard BA springs.

I've pretty much got the exact same problem atm.... I'm looking at getting the atomic replacement springs within the next couple of weeks, if you have any luck with the xr8 springs make sure you post it!

Thanks for your replies guys, tried putting in new spark plugs today but its still doing the same thing so definitely sure it's my valve springs. I might just go the Atomic route, I'd love to put the FG motor into my BA but I've heard that they don't just bolt in and they're a bit of a headache, that's why I was thinking about putting on the FG head and strengthening the bottom end in time, if it even got that far in the power that I want. Just pissed about these valve springs but I'll probably just go the cheap route and replace them. If anyone knows anything about putting an FG motor into a BA please let me know or point me in the right direction! I'll let you know if the valve springs fix the issue.
