I had a good look in the engine bay of an escort with a Nissan FJ20 motor in it - barely fit at all...

You would definitely need to modify the firewall to fit the Barra - plus the height of the motor would be tricky too, they are very tall with the win cam head and big 7L sump

eskies have pretty small engine bays.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to do a Barra into an Escort as their first engine conversion, think something simpler.

you also won't get it engineered in NSW at least, probably not anywhere so it would be a drag car only (not a track either as it will handle like ass without huge commitment)

otherwise:

motor mounts

gearbox x member

radiator & intercooler clearance mounting

firewall mods

steering box or rack clearances

sump

manifolds

water plumbing

air plumbing

tailshaft

shorten a strong diff

handbrake issues

brake fluid lines

massif brake upgrade

ECUs

more

more

more

what a headf*ck, just buy a XR6T and enjoy it.

divorce is likely between step 4 and 5 when you realise what you've started.

Lol at firewall clearance I doubt any engineer would ever let something like that onto the road, I would do the cortina personally and im pretty sure castle maine rod shop do the chassis kits for the v8's that are engineer pre approved so would be alot easier to get the turbo 6 on the road ie the chassis kit meets engineer specs for thickness and strength all that stuff good luck

Barra motor into a light car is the ultimate, youd run 9.4's in a capri with 360rwkw, if I was loaded that would of been the 1st thing I would of done.
