Excessive camshaft wear comes to mind in making black oil. Now let that play on your mind.

Now let that play on your mind.a multitude of things can be in play piston ring and oil ring wear bit of blow by blackens oil , oil pump gears heavely worn big end bearings damaged the list goes on but when comparing such workings on a fairly fresh donk the oil has to stand up or phuck off, nothing like a bit of chocolate custard in the sump, next thing some may hate it but iam a big fan of the old engine oil flush 15-20min b4 droping old oil and then leaving it to drain for an extended time 1 hr is good every last drop Edited 03/06/12 10:22 AM by Dagabond

Could this be the cause of it going darker sooner due to the high turbo temps and all?castrol edge 10w60 here in a 47000km bf f6, I could re-sell the oil as new when I dump it at 5000km's. I now use elf as I can get it for a really good price and it is simply the next step on from Fuchs but its only a small step better. When I changed to the Fuchs from the factory oil that was a huge step up in quality.Full syn oils have a better tendancy not to blacken due to all the special stuff in them to prevent it. Oil blackening can also be a sign that the oils components (as such) have broken down and that it is no longer doing its job. This can be quite typical in a turbo type vehicle when not using full syn or not good enough full syn.
