It has been around 3,000km since I changed the oil and it has gone quite dark already. How many k's should a good oil stay and look clean for before it starts to get dirty?I have always been curious about this but never asked.RegardsNick

Drop the oil at 5000k's, do a flush and change the filter.

Add a flushing agent before dumping the oil or go for a short drive with some cheap oil before changing the filter and adding the expensive stuff? Some of those flush agents you either leave the car idling for a while or take for a drive make sure you read the directions on bottle. As for darkening, really is down to previous owner and how long they stretched out servicing and whether they used quality oil that wouldnt burn at the slightest hint of temperature. Im coming up 60000km on mine with 7500 servicing and the oil only has a slight darkening by that time and I give it sh*t regularly as I just cant help but use that gas pedal when going for a drive.
