How Quickly Should Engine Oil Take To Go Dark Or Black?

Hi Guys,

I am running Nulon 10-40 Synthetic oil. It has been around 3,000km since I changed the oil and it has gone quite dark already. How many k's should a good oil stay and look clean for before it starts to get dirty?

I have always been curious about this but never asked.

Regards

Nick

lots of k's between services by the previous owner is my guess. Drop the oil at 5000k's, do a flush and change the filter.

I have a similar situation with mine.

When you say do a flush what do you mean? Add a flushing agent before dumping the oil or go for a short drive with some cheap oil before changing the filter and adding the expensive stuff?

A flushing agent designed to get rid of the slugde. Some of those flush agents you either leave the car idling for a while or take for a drive make sure you read the directions on bottle.

As for darkening, really is down to previous owner and how long they stretched out servicing and whether they used quality oil that wouldnt burn at the slightest hint of temperature. Im coming up 60000km on mine with 7500 servicing and the oil only has a slight darkening by that time and I give it sh*t regularly as I just cant help but use that gas pedal when going for a drive.

heres a interesting one and also re affirms my out look on nulon

I usually use fuch titan gto 15/40 full syn change every 5 though on the dot by the time 5 thou is up it has just started to go from honey to a tinged honey, after all the hype of the nulon crap I thought id give it ago.............never again I say after 2.5 thou its very discoloured to the point where iam going to change it. fg f6 130,000kms. iam so meticulas withmy servicing and the nulon stuff just hasnt rated in my book, even to the oint where the enging oil temp seems to stay hotter longer when giving it a hard time in comparison to the fuch stuff.

this is just my 2c though
