Tuning? What Option Is Best?

When I think back I can remember the pinging coming thru the walls of his dyno room... I was very green to all this at the time, I swear he must of been tryin to blow it up the pinging could be heard from the front of the shop.... no sh*t!

to be fair, when tuning you need to advance things until there is light ping detected, you then know the limits and can back it down accordingly, unless you take it to this limit you do not know how close you are to the knock threshold of the engine

Listening devices will pick up audible knock before your ears will hear it, this method does apply to every situation, there are other things to consider, but for the XR6T motor on 98, this is what should be done

yeh Ratter I know what you mean but this was rediculous..

kind of like a ball pain hammer rapidly being hit on a metal table noise, loud enough that the noise was coming thru the enclosed dyno room walls and could still clearly be heard from the workshop entry door which is a further 8-10metres away for more than just a few runs in a row.

ive just started doing mine up mate ive put a fair bit of thort into it and changed my mind bout 5 times but so far I plan

new rubber best I can get $1400

new intercooler plasmaman 800hp $1100 can install this a few weeks before dyno tune urself

gut the cat and put straight though pipe inside, free but do this the day before dyno tune and do not drive the car only to the dyno shop and dont rev above 2000rpm also police/epa wont like this but new cat isnt cheap and I plan to do the exhaust at some stage as well but not now

injectors and dyno tune $2500 im gonna let the dyno shop choose what injectors they want hoping for bout 300 on about 14-15 psi on 98 tune than a 91 tune on stock boost the car still gos like the wind standard and my missus drives the car to work now so has to be a tune for her

few months later 6 months or so ill get 4inch turbo back system with 4 inch cat 5 inch body and turbo side intake battery reloacted in boot seeing that im in townsville a 108 e85 tune 500 bux 200L ill get they valve springs checkd and done if needed and a surge tank

You don't have to relocate battery to boot. Plazmaman do a kit to put battery where air box goes and vice versa so your intake is on turbo side.

Thanks for the replys. As I said, I don't want a race car, but one that's fun, reliable, and doesnt cost me a kidney is good. I really want to get the surge sorted out though. Its annoying me now!
