if the stock filter is kept clean, then there would be no problem, removing it and fitting an aftermarket filter in a position that is easy to get to will also help, as long as it is kept clean

NO NO NO. The factory setup is fine. Removing the existing filter is quite easy with a deep throat 24mm socket from Supercheap ($7) and maybe a 24mm open end can help. If it is clean then just remove
