The factory setup is fine. Removing the existing filter is quite easy with a deep throat 24mm socket from Supercheap ($7) and maybe a 24mm open end can help.

If it is clean then just remove the filter and put back without filter. It is not needed in a clean engine.

If there is crap in it just replace with a new one.

Just make sure you use good sythetic oil.

If the line is all coked up then it is the owners fault for putting in crap oil. Its not the factory setup fault.

All these aftermarket braide lines are rubbish, a waste of time and money and those that say otherwise just like to spend money for nothing.

this is correct.

so blame garrett as to why we have turbo filters. if garrett had not asked ford to put turbo filters in, we would NOT have blown turbos everywhere.

I wonder why they wanted one? There must have been a reason they requested Ford include a filter...

I've heard it's from the block casting process leaving possible residual sand particles which could get into the turbo early on.

edit - by heard I mean read on the forum once upon a time.

I would certainly agree with your sentiment. Just to answer a previous question, the Subaru WRX also has a filter (which is larger than BA/BF and maybe FG), and these also have the same problem.

My personal feelings about the filter is that I believe that this may possibly be apart of the new inbuilt engineering obsolescene. This is were car manufactures design failures to occur once warranty periods are up. So as to become a more profitable and sustainable operation. Because with this filter screen it is not a case of IF but WHEN. Cheers

Took mine out over the weekend to see what it was like, no blockage at all. At 114,000k and still hardly any play in the turbo as well. If your car has been looked after I say keep the factory setup.

Aaaah I see now, I think I should clarify my statement now this thread has been brought up somewhere..

A shop that fitted some braided lines for me stretched one over a fitting they shouldn't have instead of just focussing on a better way to do it.. my post was made around the time my car was grounded for 3 days due to this leaking pwr steering line that I couldnt even dummy up a fix for.. I was angry and it was in no way related to the Earls filter line product.. sorry if I mislead anyone Darren..x..
