Clearly some of you are not understanding how this all works.

When internal heat is higher than the external environment and you wish to cool it, you benefit from a black colour because it releases heat faster. So black brake calipers are actually a good idea.

Now if you have an air con condensor you would want a reflective surface, as the internal gas is cooler than the external environment. The reason for this is that you want to reflect radiant heat waves thus to keep the refridgerant cool. For example the intercooler and piping should be reflective, but only if the air travelling within it is cooler than the external air. But if you are increasing boost (to the point were conditions reverse), and intake air temp become higher than the external environment, then you would benefit from having black intercooler and piping. Having said that, being black the piping will also absorb heat (less so if gloss/reflective).

Now these little changes all add up to noticable ones, although as many have stated the change in condition is marginal.

It is also important to understand that thermal/radiant heat works somewhat like a magnet. That is, it will be attracted to cooler objects. So most of the heat waves will flow towards the closest cooler object.

Hopefully, some of you now have a better understanding of how thermal/radiant heat waves work, so you can get the most out of your car, and keep it a little safer and more durable.

For the guys that just want to come on here and carry on like pork chops, just remember that to many you are revealing your true interlect (food for thought). Also emotional maturity is an important social skill, that when harnessed will change your experiences in life for the better.

To Daz, if it wasn't for me how else would you release your anxiety. To Luke (Ralph Wiggam) your input is invaluable, as is Ratters.

To the majority, that just read and don't get involved thanks for reading what I hope is some helpful information. What makes democracy great is the fact that you can often get to the facts through rigorous debate.

To the OP painting your heat shield black is fine. For me however, I prefer function over form. That is go before show.

Now lets see how many more worthless posts follow. Cheers

Aaahhhh so that's why I can only run 118mph. Knew I should have bought the shiny cooler piping.

you guys suck!

now I have to paint my brake rotors black again. last time im listening to randoms on the internet.

Actually latest R&D from CERN large hadron collider is to paint them both like a zebra crossing except along radial lines. Braking efficiency is only improved 4.5% though. The extra 0.5% is due to subatomic particle behaviour from the quarks released along the borders of black and white. Simple when you think about it!

Alternate schools of thought involve the principle of quantum physics, where the rotor exists as both black and white simultaneously, much like the Schrodinger's Cat paradox. Jury is still out on this one though as most guys prefer dogs.
