Hi,

I did a search and could not find an answer to my question.

A local workshop replaced the 3 main diff bushes for me late last year, and since then the car has returned no noises.

It has recently developed a clunk, usually sounding off when going from forward to reverse, but can also be heard when stop starting.

I had the car up on a friends hoist to inspect the rear assembly and I believe I have narrowed it down to either a dodgy cv cage or the 10mm or back lash in the diff center.

More to my initial question, I noticed that the 'UP' marking with arrow on the center diff bush was aiming at 5 o'clock. Should I be concerned at all and what damage could this cause?

The car in question is an 05 BA MK II XR6T.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

kind regards

Michael

OK, so it sounds like your diff bush is installed incorrectly

Should look something like this, all of them are a little wonky though

Thanks again for the response. I gathered that the up arrow marking would indicate which way the bush should face, however I believe that you have misread my question.

I'd like to know whether or not any damage could occur from the diff bush not facing the appropriate direction. If yes, a trip back to the suspension shop is due.

regards

Michael

Yes, the diff will be pointing up and it will more than likely put stress on the rear uni joint and also the side bushes.

I would recommend having this rectified sooner rather than later

^^^THIS^^^ Mine was installed wrong originally as well but HART'S Transmission's rectified it for me when the spool went in... nearly eliminated all road noise as well, I don't know why but it is just better since being fitted correctly HTH

Is there any way to tell if the red nolathane centre diff bushes are installed correctly? The red ones - can't remember if they have a line indicating which way it should be pointing similar to above, but since the Ford dealership replaced it on my FG, it has been very clunky any time easing on the throttle or gear changes.

Sorry to thread hijack, but have a feeling it may have been installed incorrectly.
