Money doesn't really seem that good for living in the middle of nowhere, hard work in the heat too. It's not much less to live and work in Melbourne plus I get to see friends/family/missus every day.

This is true. If you are prepared to work 12 hour shifts here, 7 days a week at a casual rate you will be on good coin too. Had tradesman mates working at Wonthaggi and the Regional Rail program that were in this situation. Although they had to move out there.

Some are not as isolated. Money also ranges a fair bit.

Eg, Mackay has a lot of 4/4 rosters. 3 sleeps in camp and 4 days home in Mackay, Airlie beach or Townsville ect. Hunter valley you go home after every shift with Newcastle/Sydney on the doorstep.

Pilbara has some 7/7 FIFO to perth.

Pay ranges for operators without overtime is 90k-180k

Melbournites should look at SA's Olympic dam. Huge Uranium/copper/gold mine. Not too far from home.

Yeh you might get the same coin IF you put in the hours they do at the mines. And have enough work for yourself to support the hours you'll be working..which is probably unlikely..

Old man has a mate up north that sent down some big A3 size monthly (I think) newsletter. Some good info in it, couple articles about xstrata and FIFObids..you blokes heard of that? Got my updated work safe card tonight so I'll get that scanned tomorrow and finally finish putting the resume together and upload it to that website.. :)

Just at the yard waiting for this bloke to arrive to meet up with him about the drilling job. Will check my email when I get home see if I've got anything from xstrata but reckon it'll be 2wks before I hear anything, if at all lol
