We have a few American 457 workers. We had 3 on our crew. 1 got told he wasnt going to work here anymore (lazy) and another got sent back to the US within 3 months (lazy and a whinger). They would literally do nothing and if you gave them a job to do you had to tell them step by step how to do it,,, So much for experienced miners.

The other 1 we have is a great worker and the company is looking at paying out his contract (currently with a contracting mob).

They dont get good pay, No bonuses like us. He also said when they were trying to sell him the job, they only mentioned the good things. Never mentioned the cost of living, how any of their competences dont count here, how expensive rent is.

Got to help operate the longwall last week. Awesome to see it going let alone operate the shearer. Hoping to see my permanent paperwork next week. WIN

No guarantee of a job Driving a truck or any ongoing fulltime employment sorry...

If you successfully complete the training program, your casual rate will be increased and you will become a Casual Mining Technician until you become eligible for a permanent position.

I have nothing personally against Xstrata but some people I work with do....

Ah yep literally just finished reading over it again and read that haha. Also says you may apply for FIFO in the future..is that meaning after you're no longer a casual? Or you have to find your accom and commute? :s

Worth a try anyway :)

Where'd you do training for dump truck dazz? On site pretty much put in the truck and away you go, or similar to what they advertise on that job..12wks to prove competency? Lol

Rang him up and he's working at altona atm. Anyway he said had a perfect day until then and something broke or happened to his machine and he said he wouldn't be back early and said either tomorrow night or the weekend. He wants to meet up at the yard where he parks the truck so he might (my suspicion lol) want me to show how I go driving a truck/excavator in daylight. Which is fine by me. Each time I ring him and tell him its me he loves it, so I know he's not trying to get rid of me, loves a chat too. Anyway, will ring tomorrow night and see how we go.

Can't wait :)
