The gravy train is stopping @ the next station fella's. There's a downturn on the way in the mining industry so unless your already experienced and in a solid role, I would recommend staying put.

Now Ralphy don't say that ...

Watch all the agency's crank up the "Get a job in the mines today" speel just send money $$$$

The coal aint going anywhere... times will change but I don't listen to the doom and gloom about outside workers, we all need to step up and iMO the unions need to step back!

Its not doom and gloom about outside workers its fact based on the state of the global economy and Australia's gross national Debt.

I just read through this whole thread and I must say, "sh*t ending!" LOL. I was about to ask some questions about getting a job as an electrician in the mines. I imagine there will be a number of extra qualifications on top of the general fitter/mechanic license. Do the the mines employ tradesmen directly or use contractors, and is it still possible to find fifo work or do they only offer relocation deals?

I agree with Ralph.. Heaps of people are jumping ship an rushing out to the mines for big $.. And not saying its gonna happen but they need to be prepared incase it does.. Especially if they accept 'casual' employment..

Plus I'm jealous that I don't get 3 grand a fortnight sitting on my arse in a truck..
