Yeah, the one's with people standing near them really puts their size in perspective.

The vid with the trucks pulling the gear up the hill is awesome. Anyone know how much pulling power that combo would have had?

First off, thanks heaps for that post Ryno! Very well said and got alot out of it. Appreciate it dude!

Well I'd be in it for the money but just as much as the job as I'm after a new career. So I don't think I'll get sick of the job too soon, if at all.

I'll keep that in mind about the coal and iron being the most paid :spoton:

Even time roster entices me lol but as I've said I'll take what I can get to start off with..

Sounds good the rooms and facilities, amenities etc. Always had in mind they were alot worse, so that's put the mind at ease haha

You mention the bigger owner operated mines, but do you know of any smaller ones owner operated that would be good to start with? If not I'll just stick to the likes of Rio and Anglo and go from there. I just strongly agree with what Ralph said the other day about smaller companies having the smarter workers and bigger, well they struggle if you ask questions etc. You see it on most jobs, even carpentry down here. Commercial guys, they're big companies and some of them blokes are just thick as in the head.

Well I hope me living down here in Geelong doesn't screw me up, but if in the long run I realise that all the travel is affecting my work, I'll make a decision to move or stay put and stick it out..

My mate who is in WA atm, his assessment was in Melb, is that what you mean, that they run big assessment centres in most capital cities or where? I doubt I'd fail the test throughout the day, but I don't want to pump myself up and then end up failing..lol

Qld is sounding the way to go for me now, I'll have my HR licence but it'll just be the syncro licence, no double clutch licence unfortunately. Well that's if I pass it on Tuesday lol

Thanks for the advice on what to look for in ads for myself :)

Thanks for all the pics and vids too dazzler and ryno. You really don't realise how big these places are until there's a normal car 'all the way down there' in that mine. Or a guy standing next to a machine lol. Farkin huge!

Really wish could take camera underground easily.

Whole different world down there mate.

Shyfrd Id start with contractors first. Get some good experience and then move on. Operating is a job that can take you around Oz to many different mines. Just get a crank somewhere and go from there. Im on my 4th mine now with 2 different employers.

Small outfits like MCG civil, BGC, Salmons, Shadforths etc do small mine contracts. Get a crank driving a Moxy(small articulated dump truck) and go from there.

Just remember everywhere is sh*t. Its what you make of it.

Alright, cheers. Thanks for the list of smaller joints to apply within!

Out of curiosity, how long has everyone that's in the mines, been working in them for?? And how long do you see yourself working at the mines for?
