Shyfrd I can give you some good info and pointers on becoming an operator but will take ages to type out. I'll post tomorrow

A mate a Millennium said they were taking the current downers staff first. Staying 7/7. Owner ops is the way to go.

Big rumors of Alpha project and Cavil ridge going round too.

HVO is a different place. All truckies are contractors on traineeships, wierd. Permanents op everything else.

Ah sweet some good info in those posts. So with no FIFO and just buses, you organise your own flight from the nearest airport?

In qld then, if going for a job there, should I wait for the alpha mine and get the FIFO? What other mines there are owner operated?

Lol unlucky about the dozer incident..they paid while its shutdown?

Yeh thatd be great if you could post it up ryno!! Any info I can get, the more the better! :D

Cheers guys, appreciate the replies

lol if you weren't payed while a mine is shut down then you would be better off waiting tables. The mines north of mt isa are now copping load shedding again. This means there is not enough power in the grid to go around so they have to shut off their mills on a rotation to share the power. what a joke

most people have in their head that the only decent money in Aus is in WA... I dont know much about work in the other states but in QLD there is f*ckloads of work around and all paying very very well, you just have to be prepared travel and maybe live out in the sticks for a while... Construction in Gladstone atm is massive and like said above the Alpha mine that is going ahead will be massive.

Guy I work with got his explosives ticket. Got a T shirt saying somehting like "if you see me running we are farked"

He made good coin, it was ten years ago when staff was hard to find. Now they can pick and choose, even import.

But he stuck at it and bought his house, then paid it off. Now has a pretty cruisy lifestyle. He is a bit alt, hippy. So is in heaven.

With the current world ecconomics you really need ot be multi tasked. And not just rely on the one income, specially if it's a very good one. Hurts too much when you loose it.
