First I have heard of this. We are all required to complete safety interactions and hazard ID's and are all required as Per Duty of Care in OHSA to stop Unsafe acts.

Interactions and Hazard ID's contribute to your overall safety contribution at performance review time but I have never and doubt I will even see a company that will pay you to dob people in. The Companies push that safety should be a culture we all accept and actively contribute to, not something we do or a manner we act in because we will receive a bonus.

I've heard of it Ralphy, but only in BHP. I'd much rather work on a Rio or xstrata site and try to steer clear of BHP

I'm the same, used to be the most unsafe bloke on site as I came from a farming background. Been 60ft on steel beams with no harness many a time. However it's a lot different once you are working with a crew. Lots of people are green or dumb as fk, I've had to pull people up a few times for things that could have meant gone fingeers or worse. Some of the green safety officers are the worst, when they think they are lending a hand they are just getting in the way and about to cause an incident.

Dayshift is for safety, night shift is for production. No matter where you work it's the same, production is #1 and you have to look after your own safety.

edit - as a contractor, 50% of my appraisals is safety, the rest is normal kpi's

sorry dags - ninja this plz

Long sleeves are ppe?

Yup. People working in open cut pits in the sun all day (ie ore samplers) are exposed to UV radiation,Henz mate working in a UG diamond mine- Falling rocks/Flying rock chips from drills etc. Fitters/Mech cope lacerations to their arms all the time hence the push for long sleeves.

The UV rad example may sound extreme but once upon a time it was safe to breath in asbestos dust to!

News to me mate, But to be fair I haven't worked as a BHP employee for over 10 years. I have worked at more of their sites as a contractor than I care to remember but that policy wouldn't breed a very good safety culture IMHO.

At the end of the day IMHO the shareholders care not for safety, They care about there dividends and not having to tell people that they are share holders in a company that hurts/kills people. Its very very expensive to injury/kill people and that my friends is what drives the safety train.

Be good if mattyb jumps back on and lets us know of anymore jobs up his way. I just see alot of jobs advertised on the net go so quickly. Usually the TA jobs as they're the easiest IMO. But Pazz has put me onto a couple of websites that he got told from one of his employees (son signed up to the sites and got a job through it). Will see how I go.

My mate in Port Headland (don't think I'll go there now as a family friend has said it's the pits of all the mines, showering with about 20 blokes and just real tight with money), has said some of the guys he works with have been trying to get a job for 8years =| hopefully doesn't take that long lol

THIS

ps Small mines safety is like your average building site, bigger mines have stricter safety

oh and Shy, you get used to the prison spec showers pretty quick

Wilba give Dean Humphrey a call mate, we have plenty of positions up here at Daunia if you still have current inductions and medical, Goldings want an extra physical anyway but once in even the traffic controllers are on take home $2500 a week ...
