I thought it would be good if we could get this topic pinned, as im sure allot of people get confused, myself included, about the sizing of the turbos.

At the moment im doing some research for my fg as I want about 400rwkw, therefor I need to do something about the turbo size. I have been through a few threads to get some sizes that people are using, here's 3 for example.

gt 35/40 with .7 front and 66mm wheel

gcg gt3566r spl-2 in other words a t04z centre with a 0.8 ported anti surge front cover.

-Fp 3794r (.70 compressor cover. standard ford 1.06 rear housing)

I dont have a clue what any of that means.

It would be nice if some of you experts could clear this up a bit.

Cheers, Andy

Let's not forget about all the other supporting mods needed.

But yes as Dre has said a std 35/50 will get you there though would suggest a port flapper mod as well as an acuator upgrade!

35/40 or 35/50?

do the front housing and impellor bolt straight on to mine or would I be better getting a whole unit from a ba/f?

yes, I know about all the other mods, this is the only thing left that im not 100% sure on.

cheers, andy

35/40 is just a nick name, for 400 you want a FG F6 spec standard turbo, know as gt3540.

The xr6 and g6 also has a gt3540 but it's comp wheel is different, has around 20% less flow, so makes less power.

There's no real garrett turbo that has the bigger 66mm comp wheel as a direct bolt on, there is only custom variations.

Some mod the 66mm wheel and comp housing to fit the stoch turbos , others mod a to4z to fit in the stock exhaust housing.

There's also some funky new billet varieties being made and tested that are proving a good alternative.
