Both times I did it I never touched the battery.

1st time it just kept cranking and never started so I assumed it actually worked.

2nd time it started but my foot may have not been flat to the floor so you have to be careful.

If it does start release the pedal straight away. I would also advise against trying it at all if the car is cold.

Wouldn't hurt to disconnect the battery before hand though.

I believe min is 10secs, I tend to do this after an oil change to get the oil pressure up before actually starting. I think it resets the cam phasers or something like that. Also it is not necessary to disconnect and reconnect the battery but doesnt hurt if you also want to do that.

And it does stat that it is foot hard to the floor as if you lift slightly the car will start as mention.
