What Power/boost Should I Go For?

I have just finished fitting my Spool rods to my BA engine.

I have also transferred over the BF exhaust cam and springs so it's basically a BF with spool rods.

I am running a single 044 surge tank with 60lb Dekas with a 3.5" full s/s xforce system with 4" dump and 5" cat. Intake manifold is the custom monstrosity I made :)

I can dial up whatever boost I want and I will be putting the standard BF cam table back in tonight and backing off the rev limits.

Had a burst of 420rwkw on the dyno once with the old cam etc but I'm fairly sure the fuel system wouldn't sustain that. Am I right?

Just wanted some opinions on how different people would approach it and maybe what the weakest link would be. AFR's were good then but I can't get back on the dyno as it's been sold and the new one is currently being set up.

I was thinking I might just dial up about 17psi and see how it goes?

good safe AFRS with overhead on the injectors,

trade boost for timing , defernt tuners achive power in different ways.

ie less boost = more timing

id say the limiting fator is what the pistion will take.

without it being tuned I would not do anything mate, tbh. maybe 10psi just for a while till its tuned. dalts with just an intank walbro makes 460 rwk through a glide, and ran 10.3. so I tend to think your fuel system will handle heaps. pistons will last forever if the tune is right.

Did you do the usual stuff while you put the spool rods in, ie head studs and oil pump gears? I dont understand why you would have the bottom end apart and not throw a decent set of pistons in while you were going? If it was me with standard pistons I'd be goin slightly the other way, and more boost over timing, now you have new rods it will be less likely to bend one, even with a bit of detonation you would probably be more likely to melt a piston over a bent rod anyway. If you are still running standard turbo you might as well run boost up until it it starts to run out of efficiency and the intake and exhaust temps get too high, then dial it back slightly and then add your timing. But if you havent dont head studs etc then I wouldnt got too much higher, also Im not really taking my own advice, mine is still unopenned with stock head bolts, factory pump gears and valve springs running 18.5psi. But Im not far off from putting a built motor in so this one is the experiment. But I would advise anyone to do it, although Im sure some people have already

I couldn't afford to do all the usual stuff. I would have liked to but I've grown fond of the family so I think I'll keep them.

It's basically a BF with spool rods.

I really notice the difference with the BF exhaust cam back in. It just wants to go. I'm currently running it at 14psi and it's almost breaking traction in 3rd at about 95k's. Mixtures are fairly rich, about 10.5 up top and no hiccups.

I don't think I'll max the turbo out because it will be insane. Maybe 17-18psi. That should get me well up in the mid 300's.

I might follow your tuning advice 45T-XR. I will talk to my tuner :)

Thanks for the advice and info mic

Cheers

Chris
