driving along the highway 2 days ago and noticed the car was making a whirring noise that came up and down with the revs. got home and checked the engine bay and found that it was the power steering pump. reservoir was just about empty. whoops, I still haven't replaced that leaky fitting on the bottom :P so I filled her back up and turned the wheel a few times to get everything flowing and watched my nice clean oil turn pretty well dark brown/black. took it for a drive and the pump is still whining. sooo my question is... is the pump likely cactus or is the state of the fluid a possible cause of the whine and a full flush could resurrect it? steering still feels fine by the way doesn't feel any heavier than it ever has..

Take the cap off and go hard lock stop to stop .. and get the Hi pressure line changed as well .. P.S don't let it run out of oil again!!

Next issue will be your alternator....

I see a fair few of these high pressure hoses on ebay for around $40-$50 each.. any one of them will do fine? but yes good point about the alternator I see it has already got a fair bit of the oil on it... what is the best method of cleaning the oil out? degreaser and a good hit with the gurney?
