Defiantly sounds like the spare is way too small and probably not a ford wheel.

See if the crowd you bought the car from will give you a full size rim, 17 inch or bigger in diameter for the spare. It will fit in the spare wheel well (boot) easily.

Just make sure it fits over the brakes when its on the car, not rubbing and scraping. A wrecker would also have a full size spare, and I would think even a steel wheel off a xt would be fine?

Was the spare on the back of the car? if so you should never put different size rims on the back of a car with an lsd. It will stuff the diff. As asked a few times is it the actual wheel that is catching fire?

I no that space savers are usually found in subies and toyotas etc but on a falcon I doubt that would be the original.

Pretty sure the factory spare is just a full size 17" steel rim.

I can understand how the ESC or DSC or whatever it is would be trying to brake on the faster turning wheel to slow it down but as stated it should eventually give up when not winning. And dont listen to the meat heads at Hutchies in town they wouldnt know a paper bag from a plastic one.

FG's use the space saver dont they?

I just carry 2 cans of that air with the goop in it for flat tyres. Never had to use it yet though...

Thanks for all your advice it certainly sounds like the wrong size wheel and its the brakes that catch fire so what you guys are saying certainly makes sense to me but really u would think that two garages and two professional tyre plAces such as mag and turbo warehouse and cats tyres in kaiapoi would know that sort of knowledge but they were all just no never heard of it they all saw the space saver tooo

When I had my BF I had a 17" alloy spare, don't think ford use a space saver on a Falcon at all, not even FG. When fixed just go buy a 17" alloy for a couple of hundred and throw that in the boot, also I had 20s and used the spare on the rear for 2 days until I went to pick up the 20 from repair.

Hi Theresa, your gonna have to ditch the spacesaver and get a spare 20 obviously. Put it back on to the dealer if you can. Dont worry about MexicanBatman either.

You've come onto the site with a legitimate problem and major safety concern and kindly warned us, only to get ridiculed by a childish tosser. You'll now go on to tell family and friends about this treatment which gives this site and the members a bad name.

Come on mods, fair enough there are some gooses that come on here, but theresa clearly had a genuine problem and has approached this site to pass on her experience. Piss the dickheads off otherwise our forum will become known for being full of smartarse pricks. Bad grammar could be for any number of reasons. My son has severe speech language impairment, does that mean if he gets into xr6t's like his dad and comes on here without good grammar, he'll get sh*t put on him? Wont f*cking want to, ill hunt the bastards down and pull their spine out of their arsehole.

Better still make me a mod and ill sort it out myself.

Keep the juvenile crap out of hear please kids. Yes some FGs come with space savers unless you option the full-size spare, also keep in mind that standard configurations for the NZ market are usually different to Australia.

Welcome Theresa, and I sincerely apologise for the hostility you received.
