Leave it off! That's what I said in my first post. I had the same problem. It sounds like it's coming from inside the motor but when I pulled the engine out there were only two of the six bolts holding it to the crank.

I could have sworn the noise was coming from about number four piston.

Thanks mate will look into the flex plate prob over the weekend

It makes sense cos couldn't see any of the covertor to flexplate bolts

Being loose through the inspection plate ,I guess its a gearbox out

Job out job . Never done a zf looks heavy compared to c4 .Will

You might be able to check it by turning the front of the crank back and forth with a socket while someone looks at the flex plate.

In my Max Ellery book it says to torque those to 75 nm. I will be loktiting mine as well when I fit it today.

The bolts will be chewed a bit and will need replacing. I think I read the plate should also be replaced.
