Allot more people are coming onto the planet each year then leaving. And a trend like that cast last forever.. Simple.

Best you can do is just make to most of it till we run out of food/energy/medicine etc.

With the majority of the baby boomers generation all entering retirement very soon you can't see it getting any better for a while either. Federal and State government is going to have a lot more people to take are of.

I do agree with henz but what pisses me off is that out of 20 staff in my division that are on varied salaries me and another guy are payed the highest base wage and we drive the best results and when pay cut time comes we're the first 2 to get it,., but we have at least 3 employees that don't drive any results that are staying on staff and they're base wage hasn't been adjusted

Back when the GFC happened I was working in accounts payable, and they needed to drop one person back to part time. So despite the fact that I had the highest keying accuracy, was processing twice the amount of invoices as the other girls in the dept, and had all my accounts properly reconciled, it was me who got cut back because I was the least experienced. That sucked.

I agree with what you're saying Henz, in that that's how it should be, but it isn't.

Unfortunately an employee has more rights and a much easier ride than the bloke busting his arse to keep the business going. It's very unfair in that sense - employees expect unconditional and indefinite job security, employers have to live with the fact that they can loose staff in an instant without any say in the matter.

But on the other hand nobody ever wants to have the rug pulled out from under their feet. Bit of a conundrum.

Also... As a human being you should always have enough savings to get you through a couple months at least if this were to happen... If you don't that's your fault...

Companies are hard done by when they are smaller but working for a world wide corporation isnt the same... They always end up ahead

A serious post from Dags, now that's unusual :)

I can understand completely what you're saying though.

A couple of points on things people have mentioned that I have an opinion on.

Online Sales: they are not the issue. The issue is we have been overcharged for years and people are fighting back. I can get a $1600 Intel CPU for $1000 from the states (or $1100 once you add GST) so why would I bother getting it here. I can save 30-40% buying games from overseas. The retailers who thinking puting GST on items under $1000 will solve problems are deluded.

Job Security: if I was given 12 months notice my job was going, that would be fine. The issue is when you find out you only have 24 hours till you're on the street. In my job, I have to provide 6 weeks notice if I'm leaving so why can't it be reciprocal in the employment contract?

State of Ecobomy: is still in a changing phase. We have moved from spending on average 120% of our earnings to on average 90% of our earnings. This is a big shift as it signals a change from a credit driven economy to one that only spends what it is given.

Interest Rates: retailers are thinking they're the magic bullet when they're not. Spending habits have permanently changed and they need to adjust their business models for this. The RBA statistics show that people are putting the majority of money saved from cuts into making extra repayments to the mortgage so none of that money is being spent at the retail level.

I personally am a retailers worst nightmare. I save at least 50% and sometimes 60% of my weekly earnings. For me, interest rate cuts are going to make me less likely to spend and I always have a laugh when they're pleading for cuts.

I carefully shop around for the best price for everything except Food, Petrol, etc. which I just buy. Being tall and skinny, my options for pants are somewhat restricted anyway. I have my work pants made by a local guy cause I don't want Chinese crap so it's not like I buy everything overseas. But if I can save 40% by shopping online, why shouldn't I?

Totally agree with online buying. Its the same with camera gear I got. I bought a ~$1600 at the time camera with a lens and got it for $950 or so.

A flash I want to buy is worth $600 from camerahouse. They can cram it when I can get one for $400 or so. Smarter shopping.

And if I don't need it that day or moment I'll search for the cheapest online and wait for it to come in the mail. Goes with anything that..presents, clothes etc
