We all got pulled aside today to be told 9 people (out of about 20) will be made redundant on Tuesday and they'll finish on Friday. Defence is slashing funding everywhere and we need to trim 1000 hours per month.

3 weeks for every year of service, 4 weeks notice and pro rata long service leave. The longest serving employees would be entitled to about 35 weeks.

I sure hope I'm not one of the 9.

The company has invested quite a bit of money in me with training and qualifications, so I'm hoping they realise that. I'm also the team leader, so my day to day role is pretty important. Nothing is certain though given the high ratio of redundancies.

This thing is like a festering wound....

Fortescue Metals Group lost $1.5 billion yesterday in a share price crash sparked by concerns the company was struggling to deal with its debts.

The company confirmed market speculation that it had begun talks with its financiers over a temporary reprieve from having to adhere to stringent conditions related to about $10 billion in debt.

Fortescue has been forced into the position by the collapse in iron ore prices in the past four months, which has threatened the profitability of its Pilbara mines.

similar to my position back in 2009.

team leader, able to operate all 3 production lines that we had.

no other employee there was able to operate more than 2.

let go because I had only been there 3 years.

thankyou GFC.

have moved on since then and havent looked back to be honest.

on to bigger and better things.

hope you get to keep your position.

This is the thing about being in education... There'll always be a job for me... It may be sh*t... I may be overworked... But I will always be able to get work...

We can't get enough teachers. We have 115 staff and 25-30% are Indian/Sri Lankan and should not be teaching in an English speaking school, as no one has any f*cking idea what they are saying (well, the kids dont)...

I guess I should thank my lucky stars... But it wasn't a walk in the park to get where I am...
