Tommorow afternoon I'm off to Eagle farm for 20 litres of Tolulene/Mb. for $42. Should anybody want some, P.M. me & I'll give you the Chaps Phone number. I'll start with small doses 1 or 2 litres a tank & post results. I've noticed some pinging under full load on hot days.

Ok, I'll bite ... why do you need Tolulene/Mb?

What does it do?

Ken it just gives your fuel another RON point or two. I run 98 BP Ultimate but occasionally it still pings under max load & fuel quality can vary load to load. It's really just protection.

My car, in standard trim was pinging on a dyno, you could hear it with the bonnet up, but not whilst driving.

Not a bad idea that. A friend of mine use to put 2ltrs (1 milk carton) into his STI each tank before you could get optimax, ultimate etc. I remember him saying that he use to put the tolulene in the tank at the servo before the fuel to make sure it mixed properly when filling the tank with unleaded.

If the engine pings under full load conditions, why not have the engine tuned correctly. Lower boost pressure, retard timing and/or fatten the mixtures. If these were mapped precisely you won’t need to run a concoction of toluene in the premium fuel.

I understand that it is possible to get lower than the stated premium fuel (98 RON), though with knock protection from the standard ECU the engine should not ping - if all other parameters mentioned above are set within safe limits. :banghead:
