it could be an intermittent fault with cam solenoid, connectors, corroded terminals ??? the ecu monitors a voltage & if it falls out of a set range it actiavates a fault code.. do all of the easy stuff first........ check conectors both in the plug & cam solenoid spray with something like crc terminal cleaner then see how you go..

thanx guys, yeh I'll pop the black cover off and spray some contact cleaner on the terminals.. hopefully I find something like a dud cable while I'm there..

See how it goes..

P1385 Variable Cam Timing Solenoid B Malfunction

Found the plugs that go on the back of the variable cam gears both had broken tabs. The connector on the intake side was still pushed in but the exhaust side (presumably "Solenoid B") was just about fully unplugged so the connection wasn't made.

Don't really get how they both broke but anyway................ hopefully that was all it was.

For now I've put a dab of superglue on the top where the connection meets up which I can easily pull apart later when I cbf to replace the plugs.

Funnily enough a while ago I was looking over my motor and found the plug that goes on inj. 3 was nearly ripped in half. I had to cable tie that 1 on at the time so it wouldn't come off. Luckily it hadn't already.

Ive cleared the DTC's again so hopefully it'll come up with nothing next time I check it.

just a thought.. if it was tuned with the exhaust solenoid disconnected is it going to change anything now that it is connected again?

Well I just use a bit of sikaflex if they snap as it will hold the connector in and still be able to remove it. Easy to clean off and reapply and strong enough the connector wont come out, or you could go to the wreckers and find a connector that's not brittle and back the pins out
