May give next to no symptoms except for code, but have seen them drop power in the top end on the dyno, but not all the time as the ecu controls them in closed loop. Have broken guides when they jumped, but also faulty tensioners or damaged gears, would recommend a new chain if it has jumped

Yep I have seen broken guides and stretched chains do it.... Chain jumps a tooth, pcm uses vct to correct so it idles and drives as normal... You can tell without even taking the engine apart by comparing Vct actual and vct desired PID's... Normally engine light comes on though? But being tuned who knows

These chains mustn't last too long though, I spent like 1200bux 9 months ago getting it all replaced coz they were shagged then too..

It doesnt seem to add up. I never over rev the thing either as the shift light is set at 5K and the revcut going by memory is 6300rpm.

I hope your wrong but going by your rep. I'd say your right.

I didn't fit it up some im unsure what guides were put in.

Are the FG' guides better?

Just glad the valves didnt meet up with the piston if this is the case.

It appears after doing some searching that its the guides that appear to go most of the time causing the chain to skip a tooth.

Don't know about Fords chain guides.

But on bikes, mainly sports bikes, especially 010 R1's. If you sit on the revs just before the bike comes on pipe. Bout 3,500 on an R1. This is where the cam chain has it's most slack. And when they spin over the gears they move a bit. More slack more movement. Ot wears the chain guides out pretty fast. In some R1's and Honda's in under twelve months.

In our case it's about 1,500 to 1,750 in a manual. Just where it's most ecconomical in top gear

I hope your wrong but going by your rep. I'd say your right.

Any body, including myself is just guessing when trying to diagnose somebody elses problem over the net, so there's a chance I could be wrong, you need to get correct diagnosis before pulling things apart.

You can do a preliminary check with a good scan tool, before pulling things off.

Turns out the timing chain didn't skip a tooth.. Looking at it all the dots line up. It's the vernier camshaft gears that are rooted. Getting some new solid ones fitted now that can't f*ck out. The chain, guides and everything still look new and sexy which is really good to see.

Very happy with the guys here :)
