hey mic I didnt check fuel pressure b4 and after but I just assumed the the fpr would try and keep the fuel rail at a steady 4bar at say idle.

But yeh there must be some difference in fuel pres. I gather as the car was running like a beast in the mid range until tonight where the loud popping has come and it all of a sudden just drops all power at roughly 3K under load.

Blowing black smoke, Popping on decel. Def running rich which would of fouled your plugs which would explain the loss of power and hard to start. I would suggest new plugs and a tune.

just to be sure to be sure I plumbed up the surge tank as follows..

return to tank in the top stem of the surge tank

return from the fuel rail/ fuel reg in the 2nd from the top stem

feed from walbro intank pump to bottom stem of the 3 stems that are all together

Then out of the bottom of the surge tank to the 044 pump which obviously goes to the fuel rail

I plumbed it up right.... right??

I know its wired up correctly..to the pink wire for the relay coil and blah blah

It's running rich, happened to my old BF, just need to retune it and should be good. With mine I put the boot in and huge cloud of black smoke, but like some have said better retune as you can wash down the bores when running to rich.

New plugs is a band aid solution

You gotta find out what's causing them to foul or your just wasting money.

But checking the plugs can tell you a lot.

Tan is good.

Blk and sooty is rich.

Black and wet with fuel is usually electrical

Well started her up this morning after it had been left outside over night and it started on the 2nd turn which is pretty good.

Drove home and the popping has gone and it's back to normal.

I hadn't put my foot into it though, that can wait till I get it checked on Wednesday.

I just put my xcal 3 on though and found this fault:

Camshaft position timing over retarded (P1383).

Also another one telling me my cat is below efficiency but I've had that 1 pop up before the surge tank install anyway.

Anyone have a clue how this retarded fault came about??

I had no problem with my car now I think about it until I stopped at my mates maybe 5-10 min with the car idling.. I turned the car off and then left roughly 15min later and the popping started. :-/
