In sharp low speed right hand turns with bumps ie roundabouts, I can just hear a clunk that is also transmitted thru the firewall and felt at the accelerator pedal (you can feel it more than you can hear it). Car is an FG F6, not sure if loose or faulty steering rack, or if FG model is known for a problem of this type??

Might take it in and query it under warranty.

I had the same problem. Went to ford cost $14.90 to fix! Apparently the bolts that attach the rack to chassis come loose and require a new washer and tightening! Maybe same or similar problem!

I took my BA back to pedders today after having the front lower control arm bushes replaced a month ago and I have only driven the car once sine having them fitted and I had a clunking clicking etc in the front again which I thought was the steering rack again. It happened to be the lower control arm nuts where undone a whole turn from being tight and this was causing the clunk that happens when reversing out of a driveway with the wheels turned.

Needless to say I was pissed off again as when they fitted them and I drove home the first time I had to do up the nut on the top of the front sway bar link as he had left it completely undone, I also had to put the diff breather hose back in the diff as they left it out when they did the diff bush at the same time.

That is Pedders in Townsville on Ingham road. Don't ever go there as they are useless old bastards!!!
