Black crap all around the top of the head and inside the rocker cover, everything was stained black. The car gets driven normally, not thrashed and has new oil and filter every 5000ks and has only done 34,000.

The tuner said it looked more like an engine that had done 140,000, called another mechanic over and asked how many ks do you think this has done? Answer, about 120,000. Idled a can of engine cleaner in it for 15 mins and the oil that came out after that was as black as tar. So gave it a new filter and a gutfull of Castrol 0w 40. It seems like the Nulon doesn't handle the heat too well. Guess you get what you pay for.

I completely agree spic. Apart from whatever Ford put in it new for the first 2000klm, the only other oil that has ever been in it was Motul which was very expensive syntrans and I only used it once. I was also surprised by the dirty condition of the oil, but I wonder how many other users have ever removed their rocker cover or reported here what they found. I wouldn't have if there hadn't been a specific thread on Nulon here.

No not usually. This was the first time I had used it in the hope of cleaning up the black mess and staining, but at 34,000 and a change every 5000klm in a car that has barely spun the back wheels and gets a pretty gentle life. I didn't think it would have been necessary. :victory:

Now I'm getting worried as I've got 65,000kms on my FG and have been using Nulon 10/40 for the last 30,000 kms. I've been changing mine at 5,000 intervals and just did a change on the weekend and noticed that the colour of the oil is getting darker not quite black. After reading this I'm having second thoughts and maybe switching back to the Ford LPG oil after a oil flush.
