I have 3 bikes (well 1 is really Bels) that are on the maintainer all the time, I did not fit or believe them to have anything special in the wiring

Do you just hook it directly onto the battery?

yes mate but leave the battery terminals connected, the maintainers come with a small wiring harness with connector that can be hidden out of the way when using the bike

So .... here's one for you all.

How do you keep one of these models charged as I have my cars (carby) on CTEK trickle chargers that automatically turn on when battery goes low but how do you keep your battery charged on one these models if you have them in storage?

Info for us all.....please feel free to comment.

Ahh I see. Thought the charging point mentioned earlier was some kind of factory fitted thing.

Nick, a maintainer like ratter uses for his bikes should be ok for these cars. A few people on this forum use them with no issues.

It takes all of 5 seconds to disconnect the negative terminal...... Bit of a no brainer

If its factory ford alarm just turn the ignition on then disconnect the battery.... Wont hurt anything

they are normally classed as battery maintainers, basically a low power charger, they charge when battery condition is down and the stop when a good charge is detected

I went over and lent him the unit I use to charge my other cars:- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-CTEK-MULTI-XS-3600-12V-VOLT-AUTOMATIC-SWITCH-MODE-BATTERY-CHARGER-/160787189398?pt=AU_Cameras_Photographic_Accessories&hash=item256fa9ce96

As per above post I turned the key to accessories and disconnected the negative terminal.

I have never used it on my own BF F6 or BF GT-P but its on charge now see how it goes in the morning when I have to go past and help him start it.

I usually dissconect my bikes batteries, well the ones I don't ride often. Dirty and track bike.

The Viffer (gay Honda) has a shocking wiring loom..typical Honda. So I take the leads off it too charge. It's just under the seat and eay to do.

The others I trickle connected from the day before the ride.

It really is a slow charge and never had a problem. And yup it turns itself off when charged. Although you can smell a charged battery anyway.

Best to let the battery sit for ten minutes before you touch it afer charging too. Don't hook it strait up!

I use my 2amp battery charger/maintainer on both my BA Ford and the wifes 09 Mazda SP23 with the pos and neg cables left attached without a problem. The charger has some arc prevention built into so you can turn it on at the mains and touch the clamps together without the light show.

I wouldn't however connect a charger that only outputs at one set amperage without trickle built in!

The ctek units are awesome. Put on a little loom and hide when not using it. When it needs a charge, exactly how ratter explained his motorbikes going on charge.
