My contribution...

Working in the Rental Car industry for close to 5 years now, I deal with new batches of cars on a monthly bases, I have easily jumped in 200+ brand new cars in that time and put the foot down from day one, No matter what the make/model/engine size, N/A or Turbo. Now I know for a fact, people who drive rental cars give them a hard time. Its just what we do :D

With over 250+ Cars on our fleet on a 2 yr 80,000km turnback basis, we have not had a single one with engine failure, driveline issues, diff problems, or anything else which may have been caused due to incorrect "Breaking in" procedures in the whole time I have been in the industry, let alone heard of it.

I know when my new car finally gets here, it will receive the same treatment! You buy a performance car to enjoy it after all :) If all else fails, return all parts to stock and claim on warranty

I just stripped down a BA motor with nearly 100,000 on the clock. The bore still has the original hone marks in it and there is no lip what so ever at the top. As far as I'm aware the bearings run on a film of oil so not much to run in there either.

I remember opening motors in the old days and there were lips at the top of the bore and the rings were bedded to it.

Things have come a long way since then. Not saying you shouldn't run it in, just what I have noticed.
