Yes anyone could use the forum, however thought has been made into EXCLUSIVE areas for club members, including technical areas, and the like. Also special sections in the forum for club members only, similar to donating members but alot more "special"

First of all, I want to thank you for a great site. I'm about 2 weeks away from getting my new BF xr6t, and this forum has been extremely helpful in me making that decision.

I just want to advise a bit of caution with making 'exclusive' areas on the forums. My experience with forums, is that there generally tends to be one section in which about 95% of all communication takes place. This is because it is simply much easier for someone to keep track of the posts in one section and ignore the rest. Clearly, on this site this popular place is the xr6T board.

If you want to create an exclusive board, you need to consider whether you wish for 95% of the total posts to go on this exclusive board, which will discourage newer members from joining as the forums will not seem as useful at first glance, or would you prefer the 95% of discussion to continue taking place on the xr6t board, which sort of makes the exclusive one redundant?

Anyway... I voted yes to a club, and I'd be more than happy to pay for that even if just for the occasional cruise/bbq or whatever.. just try to organise it such that politics is kept to a minimum :)

Of the 74% who have said yes could you please tell me what are the benefits.

1. Increased costs

2. Politics( first the ones you agree with and then the ones you don't)

3. Liability

4. AGM where do we hold it.

5. Geeseman. :fool::huh:

We have discussions on this forum and we can either be active or not and it is our choice.

If we give advice as a club we can be held accountable for the advice we give or publish. At the moment we are as invisible as we need.

This is a mistake and I for 1 will not be joining as this will overtake the spirit of the site.

I have been in motorcycle ride groups that have started as just a group of guys that want to ride bikes as a group that are now clubs that have been infiltrated by patch clubs with high fees and questionable agendas.

A great community resides here with diverse veiws and I love it.

Everyone here has to do what they have to do but I think becoming a club is a time bomb with a short fuse.

These are my views.

Regards

Steve

Just about that exclusive board part there is already an "exclusive board" for donating members (I also think there is one for mods, but I don't know for sure)...

Also to answer the question as to advantages for becoming a club, as a club we can do things such as negotiate insurance discounts for members and with the running of the club shared around members from my understanding it's not to much extra work... (Let's face it, our mod team already put in extra effort to look after this site quite happily)

We can also sometimes get club discounts at other places (although Cro did a good job of getting us all a discount on accom for the snowies cruse... )

That been said the forum does worrk as is, so as others have said if it ain't broke why fix it???

I would have to say NO on this one, There are too many negatives and not enough positives.

  • Just because it is, doesn't mean it should be.....

Guys this is an old issue. Chris started this thread on the 16th December 2003.

I've PM'd Chris asking him to make a statement on this issue when he gets time, for all we know it's off the agenda, which would be highly likely considering how old this thread is.

So I'm going to lock this thread up until Chris replies. If the idea of a club is dead then he can leave it locked, if it's still a possibility then he can re-open it.

Thanks.
