So, I'm sure some of you have seen my other thread about the possible VCT problem. Well I can hear and feel a tap in the head around the green circle area. It's not the injector of coil, I've already listened to them.

I can feel a tap in the head, like a nosiy tappit... Under the black plastic, can't feel on the side of the head though, only on the top where the noise is coming from.

What can this be ? Can this be the possible problem to my lost power ?

Thanks.

remove the black garnish

grab a large flat bladed screw driver, solid handle preffered

let the car idle and place the tip of the screwdriver where you think the knock is, place the handle on your skull just behind your ear

will give you a much much better feel than your finger

Just a note...a loud tap can also be a bent rod. So start with the head first and go from there.

Done that. The circle is where the tap is coming from.

I removed it and heard it with a tube to my ear. I only have insulated drivers.

:stupid:

If it's not that then there is probably something else fairly serious causing the noise.

Probably not a good idea driving it around if you plan to re-use the block. Bent rods tend to like breathing fresh air :)

An option if you need to use the car and plan to do up the turbo motor is to get an NA motor cheap and chuck it in. Just run the vacuum hose from the front of the turbo straight to the standard actuator, bypassing the boost solenoid and it will run 4psi.

I'm getting a bit ahead of myself though. First thing is to identify it properly :)

I can only hear it right at the top of the head, no noise in the block. Only a very light knock, like a noisy tappet.

You really think that could be a bent rod? even though my limiter is 5500RPM, and I never even hit that ?

rev's dont bend rods in these engines, BS amounts of mid range torque does. Noisy tappets isnt a very common issue with these engines

I'm not liking what you guys are telling me.

How can I know for sure? should I just buy new rods and do an engine rebuild ?
