After more researching and articles Im going to go the Spool rods and CP pstions rebuild direction.

Also will be using the billet oil gears as well.

Brad from spool was very helpful and willing to talk about his products which I find very good as he is willing to take the time to speak to customers.

So what I will be doing is pulling the engine down getting head checked and decked ready for new bottom end. If the bore is ok use standard bore pistons if not will look at 20 thou bore and pistons to suit. This combo should mean a strong and reliable bottom end for when I go chasing the 450rwkw numbers.

Reason for the Piston Failure I believe is a few things combining. Wrong fuel DO NOT USE CALTEX VORTEX IT IS NOT 98 AS THEY CLAIM IT IS. The cars tune had not been setup right when done by previous owner. The radiator having a small leak causing higher temps in the cylinder chamber. 370rwkw being close to the limit of the stock internals.

Hopefully once put back together again and run in I will upgrade the tune to xcal v3 and might evern see higher numbers once everything is running properly.

Will update once engine is stripped down

How did you confirm that the Vortex 98 was at fault? I see quite a few people over time alleging that one fuel is sub par quality after an experience with it, Vortex 98, V Power and less frequently Ultimate. These fuels are mass produced on huge scales. If there was an issue with one batch, many more people would be having issues with cars.

In these instances, I believe it is one particular service station at fault, maybe they were mixing old fuels or there was water in there tanks or the delivery truck had some issue. I don't believe it is representative of that entire fuel type nation wide.

Did you confirm that it was not 98 octane fuel? It may have left the factory fine but was mixed with water when it was dumped into the tanks at the service station where you filled up. What about the tune, you mentioned it was dodgy?

The reason I say it was vortex is because I fueled up at many different petrol stations around brisbane and would say 85 % of the amount of fuel I have used was Caltex Vortex. I have spoke with tuning shops on the East, West, South and North of Brisbane when discussing my car and every single tuner said what type of fuel was I running and when said Vortex every tuner groaned.

They all said to not use Vortex in the higly tuned Ford 6 turbos they say it is ok in the V8's they all recommend BP ultimate and only if BP is not available then to use Shell.

One of the tuners said " I was working at Porche for 20 years and would never use Vortex on any Forced fed tuned Car because its more like 95 than 98."

So after every single tuner saying the same thing about Caltex you just have to wonder

How much is the build setting you back with that combination your going? Thanx

Thanx JGP, yeh I've been to that website many of times wishing I had a lazy 2g in my back pocket.

I think the atomic gears and housing is actually a 1000bux and ya have to exchange him with your old unbroken 1 for that price... $'s may have changed though as I spoke with brad nearly a yr ago now.

Im interested in the other costs I.e labour of building the motor, rebalancing the crank and whatever else he's doing.

Only I'd be pulling the motor out and refitting myself which is the easy part I guess in the scheme of things but should save a few bux.

Nice price for some good gear!

You would save a fair bit of labour taking the motor out n back in yourself. The new engine/rebuild going to be on the back burner until you have cash mate or going to do it right away?

Ok so have started on the removal today

This is the plan and budget

Remove and diassemble engine myself $0

My friend runs a Autobarn so was able to get all my Seals, Gaskets

Timing chain and Head bolts and Crow Cam vavle springs about $900

Puchase Spool rods and CP pistons with rings and ACL bolts $1650

and Billet Oil gears $475

Head inspected crack tested decked and new vavle springs installed approx $300

Block bored and decked and Steam bathed approx $400

Rebuild engine with help from friend who works for Stone Brothers Racing Paid in beers $0

Re Install engine and fluids and check over $100

Install new SCT X3 tuner with tune by BPS $1490

budget a extra $500 for anything that may arise $500

Total approx $5800

This will mean I will have a very reliable Bottom end and Good head and hopefully a Strong Engine that will see big numbers in the future
