Thanks for the replies

How do I check the diff gears? I'm sure it's the standard gearbox as it was originally a cop car and I know they are auto.

There should be a sticker on the diff centre.

To check diff gear, jack car up make a mark on tailshaft and dead bottom center of either wheel and rotate wheel and count how many times the wheel goes around before the tail shaft mark is back to the orignal start point! if it has 2.73's then the wheel wont quite of made 3 turns. You get picture 4.11;s 4 turns!

Ah, well disregard what I said about that then (lucky I had my "disclaimer" haha)

All good mate, the only extra you get with cop cars in the bf range is slotted discs and extra holes in your interior. The diff gear issue affected me with my BA 3V, when I changed from 3.23 to 3.73 and had it in perf mode it would hit the limiter before changing up a gear, I just got used to driving it in man mode until I flashed it, then it was fine.

To check if diff gears have been changed without updating the computer you could just drive next to a car at a certain speed and see if speedos read the same I think. Even if they've been changed im pretty sure wheel speed is read off the rear of the trans which would just throw out speedo and not much else? Im not certain though.

EDIT: just read the post above about the diff gears and that proves that it may be the cause?

Take it to a tuner that's familiar with them, someone off here should be able to help, where are you located?

Banging on the limiter won't help your oil pump gears, and the rear end bang could be stuffed diff bushes (even though mine still gives a decent thud when lifting off under heavy load and they're fine)

Bit unusual for an otherwise stock car to have had the diff/gears changed, unless its been fiddled with then returned to stock to sell.

im located in the s.e suburbs of melb

reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery

now it will change on wot from 1st to 2nd but 2nd to 3rd under wot it hits the limiter and sits there...

it feels like the car is driving better though after reseting the box
