I overheard the fellas in the lunch room before talking about the new 2L turbo for the falcon, obviously sparked from being in fridays daily telegraph.

They dont really know much about cars to say the least but they all seemed to be of the opinion that the motor must be working pretty hard to have the same output as the "big" 4L + pushing that thing around.... More things to go wrong blah blah.. :negative:

Not saying I agree or disagree with them but that's coming from fellas that rarely talk about cars at all.

I'm aware they do not make up for the greater population but just some food for thought.

Iam no engine expert however having a small engine delivering high power via a turbo would surely create more stress on the engine. They probably try to overcome the stress issues by having stronger internals however if there is any weakness it would surely effect longevity. My work colleague has had two audi a3's both turbo's and both were sold shortly after finding metal shavings in the oil. He has now purchased a territory diesel.

A small turbo is different to our 4l turbos because the larger engine does not need to use the turbo all the time because the base power of the engine is enough 90% of the time. The small engined turbo needs to use the turbos all the time because the base engine is underpowered. I think longevity will be the ongoing issue for all these new cars going for the small engine higher output option.

This is not an issue just for ford... Most mid size cars are 1500-1600kgs these days so they all have to pull weight and burden their turbo engine.

Fleets won't care because they sell the car before the warranty is finished though if I was buying a family car, I would go the straight six and if not turbo, I would go the new LPG.

Mass produced cars need to sell to the masses. But Individualistic expectations can be met-that's what our aftermarket industries are for.

Think people forget that they're run of the mill taxi's not sports cars.

Does this ecoboost at least drop some weight over the I6? As long as it stays a falcon you can always retrofit an I6 if you want power, it's when the Falcon turns into a mondeo that we're in strife.
