You guys do know that the all new Mustang with IRS will be running the Ecoboost-4 don't you...

Yeah but in the USA the 6 cyl Mustangs were described to me in the US as the BIC razor of cars (I.E cheap & disposable). I rent them often and think they are not a bad car at all but the Charger is definatly a better all rounder. Yanks don't see the Mustang as much of a car until you get up to the Roush or the Shelby. If Ford do throw a 4 cyl in it then they will still sell a hell of a lot via sheer volume and brand loyalty. The Aus market does not have that luxury.

whats all the talk about the 4cyl for?

I thought ford were going to use their imported turbo charged v6 anyways?

cause they are going to use the v6 cause it meets euro 5 emmisions as the inline 6 doesnt.

Such harsh farkin critics!

Keep in mind that this is not something targeted towards us

I.e. meathead car enthusiasts that groan BOOOOST or POWERRRR in a Jeremy Clarkson voice as they drive

But for Ford's bread and butter on the other hand, fleet sales, it has the potential to do exceptionally well. Especially considering they've lost so much of the market because of govt. department limitations of only buying four cylinder vehicles.

Good point tab. Fleet and the Cruze are keeping Expensive Daewoo going. Maybe the four banger to circumvent gv policy and edge back into the fleet market is part of the strategy? I would still like to see direct injection on the I6T before it dies. More power, more torque, better fuel economy, more potential!

@Rhino1980 pretty sure the roadpacer came out in like 1975.....and its now 2012.

I haven't driven the 2L yet so I can't tell if it will be good or not. Please if you drive it soon let me know your opinion.

no an SR20DET wouldn't be right in a falcon or commodore, but a few nissan guys do convert there RB20 skylines / laurels and cefiros to SR20 DETs (all which are heavy big cars)

@TAB - agree with you completely. It is for the fleet buyer. Its not for the big block hoon, however, it could be a refreshing if someone did go and tune one up to be different.

LG and State buy Hybrids Tab. I love sneaking up on people in a Prius :) Hope the suits and fleet buy them.

On the subject of emissions, the I6 will be upgraded to meet Euro V specs. I remember reading a quote from a Ford exec on this when the most recent round of government funding was announced. They weren't going to but the government placed the condition on them getting another $50 million or something so they took up the offer.

My dads company is now using the Focus for their vehicles after having falcons for the last 10 or so years so fleet wise, would the falcon even be any good to go 4cyl when they have the Focus? If they're company cars, they generally only need them for going A - B so a larger car, bearing more weight, even with a 4cyl wouldn't be the best choice would it?

Then again if you look at it for company/family reasons, the falcon would be better for the guys who get cars as a perk and have families that need the extra space.
