Oops my bad, plus would prefer a 4cyl Mondeo. Was going to say the XR5 Mondeo but as they don't make it anymore cannot.

Serious question, is the ecoboost4 the same engine going in the new focus ST?

I get the technology - Ford don't get the market. And that my friends, is why Expensive Daewoo and in particular HSV blow us out of the water. Even the current trump card - the blown miami - will be out gunned once the blown VF comes out. HSV will ensure that.

IMO, if the povo pack falcon is to be killed off, let it die with dignity without lame arse attempts like this to keep it alive.

Hired a 2.5L turbo diesel Mazda BT-50 from Bunnings yesterday, and that thing had some balls, instant torque, fried the tyres with ease and was very fun to drive..

Turbo diesel FTW!!!

@hypnodoc,

Of course if I wanted a modern 4, I would not buy a xt falcon. It would be a jap or euro.

But I think the point of the 4cyl falcon is aimed at people who need a LARGE car with good economy. They haven't made all of the falcons 4 cyl (which is a good thing) as I love my inline 6 and I will HATE the day they do.

Who knows how long the Aussie falcon will last, with all the corporate BS that goes on and making one platform ie taurus, but I do love my falcon(s).

Another engine option is pretty cool man!

To save the "big cars" what needs to happen is the cost of petrol needs to come down - but that's a completely different story.

PS Another point is that, a fully tuned xt sleeper with hubcaps would be an ideal car.

I don't know why you guys are bagging it so much?

It has more power than the 5L windsors that came out in the AU1 (approx 175kw?), more power than a 4.0L of pretty much all the nineties and early 00s (157kw)

We have an AU wagon that still hauls when need be, yeah its not the quickest car out there but its not meant to be, and neither is this 2.0L-t.

However, with some tuning and add ons, it could be a very capable car.

As a standard car, it will most likely rip a 3,0 commodore, capacity aint everything - think Miami which is a 5.0 donk compared to a 6.2 LS??

All the euro's are going small capacity also now - the S line and even the RS line audis have shrunk, the M5 motor has dropped two cylinders.

Not trying to offend any of you here, but you may need a walk up call to technology. :)

Power schmower. Rotors make heaps of power. But f*ck all torque, put them in a big car and what do you get? The Mazda (Holden) Roadpacer (Kingswood). The ecoboost has got torque, but its less than the atmo 6, albiet the torque curve is a lot fatter. It will still feel wrong. It will sound wrong and it will have to work its little guts out.

The M5 has dropped two cylinders? Not a fair comparison. It still has eight! Plus there's the advantage of less rotational mass by dropping two cylinders. Works to a point, not here. Think about this. We all know the Nissan SR20DET is a fantastically capable four cylinder engine. Would it be right in a falcon? Or a Commodore? You could Imagine a 2J in either, but a four? It just aint right, like sex with your grandma.
