thunderbirdsc Member 6 Member For: 13y 20d Posted 12/04/12 04:30 AM Share Posted 12/04/12 04:30 AM My name is Brandon and I am a die hard Thunderbird SC builder/owner. I have made a comfortable living off of building them here in the s.e. us and am always pursuing new ways of making more power. I joined this site because I have always had an interest in the XR6 turbo 4.0 engine and have lots of questions, especially in regards to obtaining one for my race car.My current setup is a 3.8 V6 (essex) the thunderbird sc was the only ford V6 (essex platform) to receive a factory forged crankshaft due to the added stress from the roots supercharger. long story short..... it is THE STRONGEST out of them all there are a few of us pushing over 800 rwhp, I dont know what that equals in kw. My build consists of:wiesco forged pistons 9.5:1 crscat 5.956 h-beam rodscom cams custom grind > lift .596I/.585E> duration @.050 230*I/236*E> lca 113*fully ported/ large valve headsBorgwarner S400sx3-75 turbotial 44mm wastegateprecision bovcustom sheetmetal upper intake with a 85mm t/bcustom hot side 120lb injectors 31x11x4 1/2 fmic3" intercooler pipingetc.the car is tubbed in the rear with a ladderbar/coilover setup for 1/4 mileI believe that I have reached my limit with the engine and would really like to swap one of the XR6 engines in if I can even get one of course.the 3.8 shares the same bellhousing as the sbf V8'sany info would be helpful Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/79676-hello-from-the-us/ Share on other sites

This is just one of a few youtube vids that will give you some idea of the potential that our Australian built Ford inline six engines are capable of, Cheers Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/79676-hello-from-the-us/#findComment-1221523 Share on other sites

From what I've read on here, they are the best of the best for this motor, if you have the money of course 800 rwhp is high 500rwkw. Have a look at the 500+ rwkw section for some with similar power to your current car and take a look at the 600+ rwkw section for cars running more power than yours. For reference, 650 rwkw is ~871 rwhp and 700 rwkw is ~932 rwhp. It costs a bit but god you're competition will be smelling your frying tyres lol. Bullet proof some people say. Handle lots of power. An Aussie I6 in an American muscle, sh*t yeah!! If you get a build happening with one of our motors I'll be watching the build progress closely! Good luck and hope you pick up a motor Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/79676-hello-from-the-us/#findComment-1221786 Share on other sites

Post some pics up of the car as well.here is what the car looks like now. these cars come with an oddball 5x4 1/4 bolt pattern and only IRS. No one makes a form of a kit for the rear suspension. the whole rear end build took me about 4 months to build and consists of mostly competition engineering suspension components. 2 Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/79676-hello-from-the-us/#findComment-1221832 Share on other sites

Impellor Member 835 Member For: 14y 9m 12d Gender: Not Telling Posted 12/04/12 09:34 PM Share Posted 12/04/12 09:34 PM Brandon I have added this picture just to highlight the benefits of transplanting. As you can see all ancillaries are located to the side of the engine, therefore this will make fitting easier. Further there are two different sump designs BA/BF is different from FG, so this should be a consideration when looking at modification to the crossmember. Cheers Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/79676-hello-from-the-us/#findComment-1221849 Share on other sites

CheersWhat bellhousing pattern does it have, or share with? I run a 4R70W transmission with a 9.5" 3,600 stall....is there any chance it can be retained with this engine?
