Hey guys,

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a second hand PW Stage 2 I/C kit.

The whole kit looked quite good except for one thing, it had lost it's shine!

After a little youtubing and googling, I found some decent steps on how to get a nice shine out of it. So off to bunnings I went to purchase some sand paper and metal polishing equipment.

What I ended up purchasing was 360g, 600g and 800g sand paper (if I wasn't as lazy with the sanding, I probably would have gone up to 1200 to give a more mirror reflective surface) and also a Josco metal polishing kit which was about $30. The kit came with 2 wheels and 2 compounds, a harder wheel + cutting compound and a softer wheel + polishing compound.

The whole process is fairly straight forward. Remember that with the sandpaper, you have to wet sand.

Started with the 360g and worked my way around the I/C going one direction, and then going perpendicular to that grain. Think I did that about 4 times.

Then worked my way up the grits and did the same process.

Once I was fairly happy with the sanding, I cracked out the polishing kit. First attacking it with the harder wheel and cutting compound which I also went one way, then changed agaisnt the grain.

Then hit the softer wheel and polish compound. I polished it 3 or so times I think, each time coming up better.

The last layer I cracked out the car polish and went over it.

In the pics you will be able to see the difference in the polished and unpolished area at the bottom of the I/C

So for someone who hasn't attempted this before, I was quite happy with the end results.

Let me know what you all think!

Gaz

Thanks mate, thought the process would take a lot longer than it did.

Also with the compound remember to only use a little at a time otherwise you will get clunks of it on the metal as well as overload the wheel.

Yeah, wasn't the cleanest after the sanding, and some of that stuff is hard to clean off haha. But she's all done now, just need to figure out a time to install it.

The josco set is alright but next time use autosol ally polish much smoother finish longer shine. Next time dont sand it just use a pickling fluid ie meguires chrome cleaner to bring the sh*t to the surface and give it a good polish she will come up better then new

Great Job for your first timed, looks good.

its great you went the proper way about it and actually wet sanded it, that's how its done. Imagine if you went the finer sandpaper lol, would have been able to brush your teeth in it
