Etc Problem

Hi fellow turbo fans,I've recently been having problems with my ETC(electronic throttle control for those that don't know) warning light lighting up on the dashboard at random times while driving and all throttle control disappearing.

I've taken it to a ford dealer and they can see the error codes on their diagnostic computers but can't explain why it's happening. The head mechanic claims it could be because of the flash tune I've had done or my battery being too old. I got the flash tune performed at XFT in Midland and for 3 months after the tune I had no issues at all.I bought the car in July 2010, had the tune done in Sep 2010 and have had the same battery from the old owner.I've never had a flat battery or problems starting the car.

The last time I had the codes cleared from Ford, the problem went away for a few months and then came back slowly at first(once a day) but then at increasing intervals(3 times in a 20 minute drive), I thought it was just happening while the car was cold or been parked for more than a few hours, but it has happened when it's warm in summer.

It happens at low speed, suburban speeds and freeway speeds and the only way I can fix it is to turn the ignition off and on quickly( which is not ideal on the freeway or going around a corner losing power steering and brakes temporarily).

Has anyone experienced this happening to them before? I know you should change your battery every 3 years or so, but I'm a tight arse and don't want to replace something that seems to be working fine with all other aspects of the car, especially since there's no guarantee it will fix the problem.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Dan

Have you got a mate with a decent or relatively new battery that you could test this with?

Definitely not ideal turning the ignition on and off around a corner lol :/

Normally if you take it to a battery place they will have a load tester so can test the battery before purchasing a new one to see if it needs to be replaced if it checks out with the load tester it doesnt need to be replaced

I just had this happen to me on sunday. I went to accelerate and there was nothing, car felt as sick as dog.

I noticed the ETC light come up on the dash, so I pulled over. The car was idiling very rough, so I turned it off then back on again. Seemed to have fixed what ever was wrong, hopefully it's a one off thing.

I had this intermittent ETC fault happen late last year on my FG G6E Turbo, took it back to Ford who replaced the accelerator pedal assembly under warranty, which is basically a potentiometer (bloody big word!!) drives really smooth now and no faults
