I picked up my ute today from Westside Audio in Morley, WA.

I've had Ken there do my last four cars so when it came time to make my premium sound in my ute actually sound premium, I took it to him.

Ken replaced the fronts with some 6.5" Focal splits and also fitted dynamat into the doors.

Then replaced the rears with 6.5" Focal something or others.

He then added an Alpine Amp under the drivers seat and a really sweet Alpine Type R Slim 12" sub box behind the passenger seat which was actually only just recently fitted into his SS ute, but I talked him into selling it to me.

It wasn't cheap but I'm hoping the quality will outweigh the cost.

He also threw in an adjustment dial under the dash so I can turn the bass up or down to suit my mood or music which is cool.

I would have preferred going with 6x9's in the back but I'll run with the 6.5s and see how it goes. I have a bit of playing to do to get it to sound how I think it should but I'm still concerned I won't have the punch of a 6x9.

There's a bit of noise coming through the system but that's easily covered by the music. I'll see how much it bugs me before I take further steps.

The guys warned me it would be a problem but I dont want to add another head unit so I will live it with for the time being and see how I get on with it.

Wow Type R subs do fit. I was under the impression they're near impossible in utes. Mate in a VY SS has a Type S sub and man it's punchy, never thought they went that good.

But this has made me think otherwise..what are the dimensions of the box? ## Ft³ of air? And who has done any head unit surround plastic pieces for FG's?? Haven't seen any around :/

No work done to the car so far. I'll be getting a tune but won't be going as far as a fuel pump.

The noise is only minor so I'm still deciding whether to live with it or pursue some sort of filtration but it's common from what I hear.

It is a little annoying with the volume down low enough for conversation,

The solution of course is to fit a seperate deck but I lived with that in a BA XR6 and I'm not doin' that again.

Shyfrd, Check out the link for dims, the part number is A-SBR-S12T if you want to do some research.

The major win is that my 14 y/o step daughter has pronounced my ute stereo to be better than the set up in my VE Berlina with two 12's and two amps running everything.

Of course it might have something to do with a 12" sub sitting 8 inches behind her, but hey, I'll take it.

Thanks for the link mate. Bit weird with the dimensions. Height is 40.5cm tall yet the rest of the box is 45x42. Pic doesn't look anything close to being what they say lol. Will Google that particular box later and try find some sizes :/

Cheers mate and looking forward to seeing more development in this thread :spoton:

I did measure it this morning and the outside measurements are more like 500 high x 430 wide. 180 deep at its deepest near the base and about 110 at the top. It also has a plastic piece mounted in the back of it that is open at the bottom that you can just see in my pic. I don't know if that's an aperture or a mount or both.

Lol that sounds a bit better, 180. Doubt then it'll fit under the seat, even if the bigger end is at the back?

I originally didn't think Type R subs would fit in the back of a ute as the size of the things. These must be smaller??

Never mind, didn't realise they made thin Type R's.

Also a win for the step daughter to say the utes got better sound haha
