Well there u have it...I been debating and arguing with numerous ppl in the know in regards to Ford Ba XR6T's leather seats being completley LEATHER...

After speaking to several car salesmen in different dealerships, and both giving different opinions as to what they think the seats are made of... it was time to go to the top.

A phone call was made to FORD AUSTRALIA, and the question was given...as a result it was found that...

*Only 70% of the trim is genuine leather and the remaining 30% vinyl

*I found that the sides of the seats on the bottom squab and the sides of the back lumber supports are in actual fact VINYL...

*It was said that the Leather is only used for parts of the seats that are touched by your body while sitting in it...(tight arse bastards LOL)....

*Its not that bigger deal I know...however for an option worth close and over 2 grand...some may beg to differ....and be a little led astray by the fact that all brouchers show the interior trim as been genuine Leather..........................

*A self test shows that by pinching both parts on the side and upper part of the side of the seat bottom section... u can see a difference in texture between the two...of course one being Leather and the other vinyl...

just something I thought u ppl shoul maybe know... and also that doyls Leather supply full genuine leather for just a little more than the optional price when bought brand new from the dealership...and u also get your choice of coloured stiching in the seats...

cheers ppl.....

Marty

I think you have an excellent cause for filing a complaint about false advertising.

Read the brochures etc...do any mention the leather option isnt all-leather? Do they call the option something like Leather Seats or similar that clearly indicates you can expect leather?

If not, it is definitely at a minimum misleading advertising.

A person could reasonably expect that the leather seat option entailed all major surfaces that are visible/reachable to be leather.

Id check it with the relevant authorities, and if they agree, make a claim with ford demanding a full refund on monies paid for the leather option.

Do you guys know any car that has 100% leather seats? I think it's pretty rare this side of Bentley, top of the line Mercedes, Porsche etc. My 1968 Jaguar had a combination of leather and vinyl (leather on seat facings only). My 2000 Maxima Ti - ditto. I'm pretty sure the 1992 Lexus LS400 my Dad had was the same. So, before you get all excited, it might be worth establishing what the industry standard is.

I considered getting aftermarket leather, but the trimmers I spoke to seemed pretty ignorant about how to deal with side airbags (among other things). I'm reasonably happy with the Ford option so far - better than the XR cloth trim IMO.

Cheers

Post from June 2003 <-LINK.

Get your dealer to go aftermarket problem solved. :D

Edit: useless if you have ZEKE's problem...

Unless they pull a dodgy on you and give you vinyl on the sides after all.
