Ok, so Ford think of everything, right? They've even got this nifty little thing in the boot that allows you to release the petrol tank flap manually. Its a wire with a little tag on the end. Well, not quite. You see, the little tag has a little piece of velcro on it too. And, this little tag with its little piece of velcro can get stuck to the carpet lining. So, if you start packing your boot with stuff, snag the tag on a bag or something and then get the tag to snag to the carpet -- BOOM! Permanently open petrol tank!

However, in my defence, the guy at my local Ford dealer who looked at it on Tuesday morning is also a moron. As is the doofus who was supposed to order a new catch mechanism on Tuesday, then Wednesday, then Thursday. Eventually, when I was asked to bring my car in for another look because the doofus was off today, the Service Manager spotted the tag under the carpet lining and said, "I think I know an easier fix."

Oh, well. At least its fixed. :)

its been that way since AU so I suggest you go to a dealer that actually works on there cars. If they don't know something as simple as that, what else don't they know!

ive got one of those tags on my EL. what is wrong?

the only thing I can see from what your saying is that the bag pulls the cord, and the gets re-stuck to the carpet fully pulled. is that what you mean? if it is, that's the way it should be, you just have to make sure that its not pulled

Yeah, except mine got pulled fully open under the carpet lining. I didn't even know it was there. You couldn't actually see the cord or tag unless you knew it was there.

So I thought something was wrong with the locking mechanism. Oh, well. Live and learn.
