When I rebuilt it last time my crank had cracks all through it so I replaced it with an R33 crank. Also put an N1 oil pump.

The car actually let go when I started it one morning to move it out of the driveway so it's got me f*cked what happened. The car still starts but has extremely loud bottom end noise. Same as the 1st time I spun a bearing.

My main concern was the head too which I know is about $1000 for a freshen up.

It's gunmetal grey 89. Let me see if I can find some pics.

Yeah well if it's making the loud crunching or knocking sound, that would infact be the piston's hitting the valves, more than likely the crank will be a throw away or very expensive to fix dependent on exact amount of damage, piston's will likely be throw away aswell, it will also have bent the valves, how many ? who know's until you open her up...

Hopefully that will be about it, probly have to get yourself another oil pump aswell, as metal has probly gone right through it and although you might be able to service it, it's not worth the risk of it having some spec's of metal in there with a fresh motor...

Engine removal & refit is costly on any GTR, cos pretty much you have to drop the whole K frame with strut's etc out to do it properly, then the car is non mobile, so pretty much it's guna be sitting on stand's or a workshop's hoist until engine is repaired or changed over and is running again, alot of workshop's dont want touch them unless they are making good $$$ as it's a *beep* of a job pretty much and part's and machine work is costly...

Look's nice mate, hopefully you can fix her up, as alot choose to sell them blown up for the reason of costing to much to repair...

The main reason it hasn't been done in so long is the money and I'm pretty much fearing the worst.

I was so shattered that when I built the car I never actually got to drive it as I had no licence at the time and then within 2 months it was gone. That was about $8000 down the drain I think.

As for the engine removal and refit, I never want to have to do it again as it was an absolute pain. That's why I'm trying to get someone else to do it.

An engine builder mate has just offered to do it for me pretty cheaply so I'm gunna have a bit more of a chat to him and see what happens. At least I know that if I take it to his place I can leave it there as long as I need.

why dont you just buy a low klm r33 engine off ebay or jap wreckers ? they are pretty stout. if its knocking that bad the block could be a throw away. what power was it making ?

Yeah mic might have a point there mate, they are pretty stout if tuned correctly, here is a R33 GTR Rajab done a fair few year's back now, was a completely stock standard motor, just new low mount 2860-5's on all stock manifold's and dump's etc, had a motec M4, 1x 044 fuel pump no surge tank, bigger injector's, bigger intercooler and a better clutch, made approximately 350rwkw on Rajab's dyno back then on pump 98....

I have considered dropping a 33 motor in but I wasn't too sure how it would hold up. Didn't really want to drop a 100,000km+ motor in and have the same thing happen again.

The block is pretty much throw away as it's got a crack under the inlet manifold I think it was. It made 255rwkw at 16psi.

The guys at Racepace said it could make more but I had some coolant leaking issues at the time. They said once I fixed the issues it would make about 300 at around 20psi. They said my exhaust was holding it back but I'm not too sure what part of the exhaust.

That sounds like a pretty good effort from Rajab. I've only got 2860-7's which are good for a bit over 300awkw.

N1's aren't the best oil pumps but they're not bad and at 1/4 the price of the other brands it's all I could afford.

I could almost bet the n1 failed. they are made from hardened recycled toilet paper that's y they are cheap. I used a nitto pump and the inner gear was twice the weight of n1. u got a way better chance with a 2nd hand 33 motor mate.
