When you run the power cable to the starter motor how does the battery stay charged? Is the alternator in loop with the starter motor?

Or could you just join the cable to your existing positive terminal as I have a amp cable aswell?

Because the starter cable comes from the battery

Does the battery have to be in a box to be legal? Can any one put up photos of how they've secured the battery tray and box to the boot floor? What size battery have you's used? I was thinking N70 AC delco sealed battery as I'm pretty sure I can get one at the right price or going with an optima yellow top.

Had mine in the boot for ages now, works perfect. No whine or anything through the radio. Theres pics in that tutorial thread..

When I put mine in the boot in my datto, I used a plastic battery box and a steel battery tray.

I put the tray inside the box, and then drilled through the box and floorpan and put two plates underneath the car too, so the plastic box and floor pan were sandwiched between the steel plates and battery tray. Also put a piece of rubber under the battery to stop it rubbing on the bolt heads and reduce some vibration.

I wouldn't rely on the plastic box screwed to then floor with a 12+kg battery floating around inside if your cornering hard.

I have finished my battery to boot setup, everything works perfectly, but just a bit concerned about the earth. The place I bolted it to is only thin metal, just wondering does it hurt to have two earths?
